So begins Vattier d'Ambroyse's declaration of love for Banyuls-sur-Mer in his Littoral de la France devoted to the Côtes Languedociennes in 1889.
Since then, the town's reputation has not wavered: wiser than the madcap Collioure, rich in the Banyuls wine that bears its name, the starting (or finishing) point of the famous GR10 that links it to Hendaye across the Pyrenees, France's first protected marine area.
